Freestanding on three points of contact with the ground "Momentary glimpse of act without cause No.1" is a self-reliant entity. This groundedness gives character and stability to the piece. I strive to create a form united in its wholeness within which the elements or features are harmoniously combined. In this particular piece the back-folded end is the main focal point. Plastic arts enable a freedom of expression not limited to representations of the physical world as we sense it. The fold is an example of such expression. It is not behaving like a textile or any solid material would, there is an averaging out or smoothing of the transition giving it a mysterious and abstract quality. The question arises whether we as human beings can access a field which is of a totally different quality from that within which sensory experience takes place. Through this physically impossible feature I suggest an unexpected influence on our perception from this "other" realm. The concaves and convexes interact throughout the piece and provide the main dynamic substance. The width of the edges are carefully tapered for expressive integrity - influenced by calligraphic strokes - and aid in the overall fluidity of the piece which in turn may be likened to the fleeting afterglow of a spinning torch.
