In the quiet expanse of a blue-grey canvas, my childhood memories unfold through the delicate artistry of my painting. The embroidered silhouette of a bullfinch, migrating to the northern hemisphere in winter, whispers of nostalgia and the enchantment of seasons past. Against this serene backdrop, an abstract tableau emerges, featuring two creatures with ears and snouts reminiscent of watermelons—a whimsical tribute to the intricacies of childhood perception. The marriage of acrylic paint and embroidery, boldly experimented upon this medium-sized landscape, mirrors the spirit of exploration ingrained in youthful curiosity. As a child, not everything is easily understood, just like the abstract creatures that dance on one side of the canvas. Yet, these creatures embody the essence of happy and magical recollections, reminiscent of the carefree days of youth. The comfortable landscape format provides a familiar terrain for me to weave this visual narrative, inviting viewers to embark on their own nostalgic journeys. Each stroke, a testament to the blend of artistic mediums and the fusion of memory and imagination, captures the essence of a time when we approached the world with wide-eyed wonder and unbridled curiosity.

Vera Fonseka is an artist based in Portugal whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally. She describes her works as conveying the paradoxical existence between the scrupulous intricacy of the details and the brutality of iconography. Fonseka's artistic process is marked by her use of mixed techniques with adhesives, fabrics, acrylics, and oils on canvas. She was born in 1982 in Tallinn (ex URSS, actually Estonia) in an actors-family. In 2003 Vera moved to Portugal where she's been living since then. Inspired by Kandinsky, Frank Stella, Beatriz Milhazes and Alexandra Mir, Vera Fonseka tries to make conceptual contribution in Contemporary Art.
