There is nothing quite like a sunny day at the beach. This bright, dynamic watercolour captures the sights and sounds of a beach even without depicting the sea directly as is the usual compositional practice in this genre. The cool top half and the fiery hot bottom half of the painting, rendered in complement pairs of blues-neutral and orange-lemon yellow suggest the complementarity between activity and rest which is also present in the subject: a vehicle [presumably broken down] and four women making hay while the sun shines. Might as well relax because they aren't going anywhere quickly.

Specifically, I'm interested in using the visual idioms of classical style, with their emphasis on accuracy, perspective, and proportionality, in the service of creating representational art that conveys more than a photograph can. While I work with pastels, pencils, and acrylics too, I am partial to watercolours.
