This was inspired by some unknown to me rapper in Rolling Stone magazine. I forget the name of the person. I would like to say this portrait embodies the phrase copasetic. The patterns really help it pop. It painted much looser than i usually paint.

Hi I'm Sam Grantham. I am an oil painter living with schizophrenia. IM 37 and I have been an artist all my life. I am very influenced by music most particularly rockabilly, delta, blues, Proto-punk, jazz, hip hop, and anything beatnik. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground, The Cramps, and De La Soul are some of my favorite artists. Music helps me improvise with the help of music. I never have a plan and don't sketch anything. I grab random photos from magazines and interpret them with my paint brush. I use lots of shapes and patterns to help the composition.
