This painting of mine is part of a series in which I play with dichotomies: man-animal, natural-artificial, illusion-reality. My pictures which show dogs were inspired by a remark of Vilmos Csányi, a Hungarian ethologist, in which he stated that a dog is an artificial animal whose natural environment is human society. The problem of illusion and reality becomes emphasized by the appearance of bits of everyday reality appearing in the painted space and by the illusionistic manner in which the subjects are drawn. The eye becomes uneasy, and the tradition of trompe l'oeil is summoned. It is important to me that the attitude of respect for tradition be visible in my pictures, but in addition to that today's aura should also be felt.
