About The Artwork

The big heads and beast figures in the restless empty space, painted freely, tumultuously on the paintings of the enormous format, with no description at all, are not of the animal. They are homo – animals, people – animals of Vicentic. The artist returns to the very beginning of the art by these paintings. The oldest creation of the spirit that we all know, the lonely animals and herd, carved, scraped and painted at the rock, talk about the intention of the real painters to feed themselves by meat. Shaman fights against the animal spirit by painting. On the paintings everything is in the animals – hunger, searching of the plunder, flocks of men and the whole brutal and short life of the hunter. The man paints himself very rarely, but we all know that he is here, hunting, on the wall of rock… The animals are on the paintings, in the sculpture, on the pages of the books, as the showing of the Deities and the showing of us and they are present during the whole art history. Symbolism of the animals was transmitted during the millennium. We could understand it less after a few centuries of the rationalistic demythologization of the world. By painting frenzied and distorted animals, the expressionists of the modern era were disgusted with the society they lived in, and they were pretty sure that they would change it in some way by their art. Franz Marc, the one of “the blue riders”, at the beginning of the twentieth century, by painting the animals, starts searching for the Paradise and escaping from the upcoming Great War. from the text Homo-animal by Katarina Dogandzic Micunovic
