Mexico
My name is Al Suárez and I am an artist based in México City. My artwork is composed of portraits, nudes and botanics or animals, specially birds. One of my goals as an artist is to preserve prehispanic culture and even though my artworks are focused on modern subjects or made with contemporary techniques, the majority of the pieces have a Mexican influenced essence. My medium is watercolor and graphite. I always had a strong connection with water, and given that, working with it is really easy because it's like water knows the shape it has to take. For example, while painting a nude body, water remembers the body shapes and forms. All I have to do is to tell it how I want that shape, in which position and where. The most important things in my work are feelings and sensations. I want the spectator to have the same feeling I had while creating or planning the artwork. Even better, if they can experience their own set of emotions, for me, the purpose of the artwork is more than completed. For this to happen I normally play with the lights and shadows, sometimes with the colors and some others with the mass of the subject. I’m inspired by ppl´s identity and perceptions , prehispanic cultures and Méxican traditions. I am an artist because creation and design are vital activities in my life.
