Elena Starostina shows us very well-known cities, but does not offer us the well-known city landscapes, but rather the view of the city from an unusual perspective. These cities are among the places that have a great fascination for many people and are happy to be travelled. This unfamiliar perspective from above is always a special and unusual moment, this perspective also gives us a sense of freedom, perhaps even grandness. She works out the architecture structures and forms to emphasizes artist's work. This leads us to the question of what really makes cities so appealing. Often it is a representative architecture or the location on a river, but most often it is the ecclesiastical architecture that characterizes a cityscape. The contrast between the still dusky walls and the golden morning light influenced the choice of material for the work - gold as a symbol of the imperishable, eternal.

Lightfull lightness is the key element of Elena Starostina paintings. Either garden flowers, city views and roofs or landscapes, gently brushstrokes evoke their timeless life-affirming tension and reduced color settings give an abstracted hint to reality, leaving room for the viewer to dream along in an flourishing impressionistic style, including dusky moods. Classical education, more applied, than academic, leads to casual nude paintings. Atmosphere of buildings is deepend with empathy for history by linking sentences and sources. Sensibility expresses in these paintings, which was experienced outdoor, thus they are artful, but not artificial. Dr. Phil. Dirk Tölke, art historian
