Within, Without: Searching Print

For the titled artwork, 'Within, Without, Searching', I wanted to blend the natural element of wood for the symbolism of being grounded and within the human realm of determination, want, need and hope, and the thick lines to represent the different paths within the subconscious that flow around that ultimately form into the tangible. There are two individuals within this artwork, formed, yet abstract within this artwork: the larger wood figure looking out to the viewer with an emotional-like calling; knowing where to go, determined, yet at the same time, still within thought-journey, comfortable. It is interesting to note that even though this individual appears closed off from the rest of this abstract subconscious-like place, they have the freedom to leave and return as they choose. The lines around this individual giving the illusion of being severed from this connecting, line form of the openness of the outer edges of the canvas. The smaller individual is just forming, coming into an open space, and open area of potential. The black, raised-like circles are like portals. The additional wood art near the center of the artwork like eyes, observing and knowing of what is beyond their placement, understanding a larger, definition of their existence. The larger wood individual figure and the smaller wood individual figure are unafraid of the eyes.
