Drawing in silverpoint on prepared wood. Need to be framed. Silverpoint was most commonly practiced during the Renaissance by such artists as Jan van Eyck, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer and Raphael, and is the ancestor of the modern graphite pencil. It's a very long process of tecnique and mistake cannot be rectified. Silverpoint is a drawing instrument composed of a small, pointed metal tip, usually of silver, encased in a holder. This meaning that the drawing is made by real parts of silver. Silverpoint can be used on various supports, including paper, parchment and wood, but the surface requires special preparation or a ground for the metal to leave a mark. The medium is also called “metalpoint” for drawing with copper, gold, platinum and brass. Each metal has its own “softness” and reaction to oxidation. Copper is soft and produces a greenish oxidized tone. Silver, another soft metal, creates brownish black oxidation. In the late Gothic/early Renaissance era, silverpoint emerged as a fine line drawing technique. Not blunting as easily as lead or tin, and rendering precise detail, silverpoint was especially favored in Florentine and Flemish workshops. Silverpoint drawings of this era include model books and preparatory sheets for paintings. Cennino Cennini's "Il Libro dell'Arte" provides a window on the practice of silver and leadpoint drawing, as well as preparing metalpoint grounds.

"Invest in Art" Spring catalog 2016 Saatchi Art The vocation for the self-portrait, literature and theater have nourished for years my painting. Ophelia, Alice in wonderland, The girl without hands, are some of the characters that I have chosen to pay homage through my artistic work. Currently, sleep and coma are key elements of the new series titled Sleepwalking. Once a year in my family there was the ritual of washing the wool of the mattresses: every corner of the house was filled with soft cream-colored substance and I spent hours and hours playing and imagine snow-capped peaks and bizarre appearances. Today this tradition is for me a rite of love and liberation from the symbolic stigmata of sleepless nights, nightmares and infirmity: the bed once again becomes the crib in which a new cycle starts. Wool, doilies and hair are the gateway to this world suspended between reality and dream. Searching on sleepwalking and other disorders (narcolepsy, hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations…), I started to investigate another kind of portrait: hidden faces, eyes cleared, enigmatic situations in which flashes and personal hallucinations appear.
