This piece was inspired by the 1932 version of the film "Tarzan The Ape Man" with Johnny Weissmuller, as Tarzan, Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane. The chimpanzee (in this case Cheetah) wearing the suicide Coca Cola vest is an attempt to provoke thoughts about the dynamic of this exploitative relationship and it's connection to commercialism. One of around 50 unique mixed media pieces forming my "Monkey Brain" collection. My use of the Monkey's face as an iconic figure is a reaction to the "Dime a dozen" versions of all the predictable and repeated Monroes, Trumps, Bowies etc... that seem to be inescapable in contemporary pop art today. In line with that, is the stealth take over of the "Monkey Brain" in the day to day decision making of humans today in all cultural, financial and political classes. The surface material used for this peice is X-Board - a re-enforced coated cardboard commonly used for constructing temporary display installations in commercial environments and trade fairs.
