This painting belongs to my current series called "Containment." The series is dedicated to the idea of what it means to contain and restrain. Although such idea may appear anachronistic In this age of over revealing, marketing and sharing, I long for the simplicity and quiet, and wanted to express such desire and evoke such emotional state throughout the series. As I perceive much chaos, rupture, and fast development around our surroundings and humanity, my goal as an artist has always been, and – more than ever these days – is to express and communicate a level of decorum and strength that comes from self-control, introspection, contentment, and emotional containment through my paintings. In terms of process, heavy and several layers of paper in various colors were first applied; once dried, the layers were peeled in curved lines.

Young makes abstract paintings with paper. At the core of her practice, she explores the concept of impermanence as it relates to life, and the beauty of such mercuriality and unpredictability embedded in the life form. Techniques and process are key to expressing her intention as she unearths the essence of the theme of ephemerality by peeling away colored paper that was first meticulously layered and copiously built up. She is inspired by this process of building and removing intricate layers in order to reveal what is underneath and between – birthing something entire new from the ashes of destruction. In her body of work, melding her past experiences and passion together, Young combines elements from art, design, and craft. Young received her BA in Philosophy from Occidental College, and post graduate studies in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. Her paintings have been exhibited and placed by galleries and collectors throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
