Much of my inspiration for this print is thanks to the many visits I make to the beautiful Palm House in Kew Gardens. In this piece I wanted to accentuate the layers of shapes and tonal shades you see when plants are contained so closely together. These fluid forms flow into one another to create new and abstract spaces and shadows which I find so mesmerising to look at. Please be aware that each print I make is done completely organically, with no set structure to my lino blocks or preconceived idea of what the finished piece will look like. Each leaf and petal is picked and then printed as the moment dictates and is finished when it feels right. Each print will have similarities and differences as a consequence of how I work. Materials I use are Somerset satin 250gsm and oil based inks Dimensions 30.5 x 41 cm (unframed) / 38.5 x 58 cm (actual image size) Edition size Limited edition of 15

Years of travel and living abroad are the reasons why Alison’s chosen subjects are so varied. Born in Brazil and nearly two decades living in Italy she sees the world full to the brim with fascinating subjects to portray. Having studied illustration and fashion design and then gaining a BA in Fine Arts, Alison has a wide experience of diverse art methods and styles. But it was a lucky chance encounter with a printmaker that she tried her hand at linocutting and finally knew she had found the perfect process for her and her style of work. Alison’s main priority when creating art is to reach a perfect balance of colour and composition whatever the subject matter. As long as it is pleasing to the eye she feels her work is done. Her linocuts have been exhibited in many group shows including at the Bankside Gallery, OXO Tower and the Royal Academy of Arts. Alison has also been featured in the respected Pressing Matters publication. You can also find her work at the Dorchester Hotel London.
