Self - Awareness This painting is part of a series called CurrentMe, a play on the word currently. CurrentMe in its entirety expresses where I am and what I am doing in my life these days. Many of the paintings in this collage were finished during Covid19 isolation period. They are reflective in nature of what I try to understand and live by, mixed in with some winks to my other work. Each painting is 24” x 24” acrylic on canvas. Self - Awareness 2020 24” x 24” acrylic on canvas Being aware helps us activate intrinsic parts of who we are. It makes us more mindful of the words we use and the thoughts we think. Also, it helps us see how we are spending our time, our money and energy. Our shadow side and our spiritual nature are in this constant beautiful dance that I encourage you to look at. Being still, intentional breath, journaling observation and meditation help us to reconnect with our heart in lieu of our mind’s narrative. It’s not easy at times, some of us numb and some of us keep ourselves busy to avoid it yet the more we can do it we access true power that can heal ourselves and the collective energy. In the painting itself, I Explore all the versions of gold I can make from one color of paint and a few mixing mediums. On the meaning: we know about exploring a subject, a medium like paint, an object etc... Also, exploring a city or place is a fun easy concept to grasp. Recently while preparing for a show I connected with Carrie Lowe of @solbreath about energy after I heard her speak on it at a breath work class. It’s been a subject I’m exploring (haha) and learned a new thing to explore via our conversation. To explore unwanted, negative thoughts or subjects you don’t want to put your energy towards while meditating or in your day to day. She explained “to move on, take a breathe and acknowledge the thought. Explore and be curious about it , asking it what are you here to tell me? because simply wanting a thought to go away or pushing it aside creates resistance. Hmmmm By becoming aware of the power of the power if intention, an oft-neglected human ability, you will find that your life is transformed from the inside out. The quality of your life is directly related to the questions you ask yourself. Our “to do” lists are intentions but let’s not forget our hopes and dreams either.
