"Plain Jane Superbrain" is based on recent trips to the desert mountains, casinos, and gold-rush ghost towns of Nevada and Arizona. The few natural springs dotted around Death Valley, California were a particular inspiration. These watering holes are where dusty desert folk and tourists congregate, where weather-worn shacks, RV parks and the odd motel and saloon bar have grown almost organically. A strange brew of eccentric and everyday characters converge to rest, refill their bodies and cars and purchase location-branded souvenirs before setting off into the scorched barren wilderness past the dry bones that litter the edges of the never ending highways. Exhibited as part of the East Sussex Open 2015, Towner Gallery, Eastbourne, 11th July - 12th September. Acrylic, Emulsion, Pastel and Fixative on Canvas.
