About The Artwork
This work was inspired by a return to a lake that I had visited many years before. When I returned I was confronted with the effects of climate change. The lake had shrunk to a much smaller size. The quaking aspen forest that used to include large beautiful aspen trees had mostly disappeared because of drought and forest fire. I did my best to accentuate the color and beauty of what was left. I was inspired by the color of the remaining aspen leaves, the water, and the forest.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
