This 12" x 12" original artwork is a contemporary still life oil painting inspired by the nurturing flavors of summer. This painting is a "harvest" of design and color as witnessed through a collection of summer peppers as the focus. Line and vibrant color are the methods I use to take the subjects before me and transform them into something unique with meaning and emotion as a visual experience. The shapes become vessels for color and silhouettes of joy as they come together in a new way. In this oil painting a fresh green, orange and yellow peppers are immersed in a floral motif. It felt like being in my garden. The geometric aspect of the painting represented "window panes" of light. I love windows and looking outdoors. The entire composition connected me to home and the pleasure I receive in growing things. In this case tilling the soil with my hands to plant a pepper plant and dropping seeds for a spray of wildflowers midsummer. This oil painting was painted on a masonite board. It is a signed original and is ready for framing.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
