As a part of the extinct animals series I was inspired by the Auroch's history. Like so many of Europe's megafauna, the Aurochs met their end at the hands of humans. Their horns were such coveted hunting trophies that by the Middle Ages, their numbers had already fallen. The species officially went extinct in 1627, when the last cow died in Poland. I composed the imagery with selected paper, an abstracted acrylic background geometric shapes made of decorative papers. The style I work in is a blending of abstraction and realism which I call Emergence, the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed. I hope that the viewer will see the beauty of the Auroch and remember how fragile life is.
