VIEW IN MY ROOM
This image evokes for me memories of the Sultan's Palace, the lush and luxuriant quarters found in the remotest areas of India and the east. Inviting you to enter and explore the upside-downstairs and the downside-upstairs, the crevice and the distant arches to unearth stories of adventure and riches... The medium of the limited edition is Giclee on aluminium Dibond -materials that speak to the luxury of the subject --- This image is in my Tesselations series, a deceptively simple technique that requires precision in the shooting stage to create a base tile for the full tesselation. The result creates closures of form that generates an image that is at once both graphic and photographic. One sees the graphic nature of the image from a distance, and then appreciates the photographic on closer, or second look. A series of images that invites and rewards deeper contemplation.

Born and bred in the shadow of the Pennines on the interface between urban and rural life I have always found my place 'in-between' - a life of contrasts. Working for many a year as a highly disciplined software engineer in life and mission-critical systems across the globe I have a keen analytical mind; but also a compassionate and creative soul, a writer and photographer. I believe categories, labels, are for shelves not people - and I seek to blur the boundaries of identity. My writing aims to make the beautiful ugly and my photography, the mundane extraordinary. For people and things are never simply 'this of that'; for all things express the contradiction of the human condition: neither self nor herd; neither transient not eternal; neither physical pain nor spiritual bliss - but something other, something in-between. I photograph the unseen, the otherness of our lives.
