I was inspired but the shape of this part of the volkswagen car, and also by the word 'beetle', which enabled me to use the title One of the Beetles, as a tongue in cheek referencer to the iconic group of Liverpool musicians. So I put together two iconic images, the car, and the group. I hope that viewers will catch my meaning in the title and find the image powerful in its simplicity, graphic shape and use of colour. I wanted a pop art style with elements of abstraction, yet with a clearly identifiable image of the famous vehicle. ‘One of the Beetles’ is printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta Satin, an archival 300 gsm photographic paper. The print is a limited edition of 25 copies Each print will have a Certificate of Authenticity included dated and signed by Jeff Laurents

I studied for my degree in photography at the Polytechnic of Central London and also lectured in Cinema for the British Film Institute. I have specialised in digital image making for many years. My art is mostly abstract images or landscape photographs which I have transformed digitally to resemble paintings rather than straight photographs. I also create cityscapes, images of iconic local scenes which I sell to art galleries and retail outlets in my area. My approach is experimental, and when working on my images I will reject a version that doesn't appeal to my sensibilities, and I will continue to work on an image until I'm happy with the result. Some of the titles of my artwork are deliberately tongue in cheek, as in my images 'A Grave Situation' and 'One of The Beetles', or ironic as in 'Global Warming'. I try to create images that appeal to the viewer's feel for shape, colour and texture and sense of composition, or for strong graphic monochromes, so my work is motivated by aesthetics.
