About The Artwork

My painting, 'The Daughters of Zelophehad'. 17 inches x 12 inches. Acrylic dots on primed canvas. It will be shipped in a roll. It is inspired by 5 sisters in Biblical times who dared to challenge the patriarchal inheritance laws of their tradition. Today many are groaning under unfair traditions just because they are women and considered foolish, weak, useless and silly. I hope they can also challenge such laws which are often enforced using the name of God and scriptures. The decisions of men human beings are turned into 'God said so' when God never condoned such laws. The Daughters of Zelophehad (Hebrew: בְּנוֹת צְלָפְחָד‎) were five sisters - Mahlah, Noa, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah - mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, (Numbers 27) who lived at the end of the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt as they prepared to enter the Promised Land and who raised before the Israelite community the case of a woman's right and obligation to inherit property in the absence of a male heir in the family. #nigerianartist #womensrights #paintings #contemporaryart #pointillist #dotart #lawandorder
