My art is an ongoing commentary on social issues that arise from everyday activities and events. I refer to my creative process as making statements or interpretations about personal experiences, relationships with other people, and happenings in the world around me from, in particular relating to my feelings and responses to various events. In addition to my contemporary perspective, childhood experiences and how they influenced me are also important aspects of my work, as well as traditional folklore and stories handed down from generation to generation. People are so mobile today, constantly moving and relocating from one place to another, that our pasts have a tendency to be lost. So at the same time that I explore and comment on current events and issues in my work, I also feel that preserving our histories and the wisdom of those who came before us is essential to understanding what happens in our lives today. By revealing my perspectives and opinions on matters, taking into consideration both the past and the present, I invite viewers to reflect on these issues and also to encourage discourse. NORRIS BIOGRAPHY The painter Aloaye Noms Adoro was born in 1973 in Enugu, Nigeria. He arrived in Manresa (in the Barcelona region of Catalonia, Spain) in 2006, the city in which he currently lives and works. After studying artistic techniques for four years (1995-1999) at a public technical school in Nigeria, Norris obtained scholarships to continue his education in Oslo (2004) and in Chicago (2006), where he also collaborated with projects in museums and galleries, worked as an assistant professor, participated in collective exhibitions and made his first individual exhibitions. His time in Norway and the United States was full of enriching experiences that marked the start of a promising career. In these countries, he learned about favorable artistic environments from up close, in which the opportunity to exchange ideas with artists from different backgrounds and cultures, and understand the fundamental concepts of art, guided him in defining his path and the true sense of his artistic work. Like all contemporary African artists who attempt to make a path through international art market circuits, Norris has also faced barriers of prejudice, cliches and labels.
