About The Artwork

Rhombuses combine two triangles, with the top of the triangle up - the masculine principle, the spirit, with the top of the triangle down - the feminine principle, matter. The rhombus is a symbol of fertility because when the feminine and masculine beginnings are combined together, something that the spirit seeks can materialize. Also, a combination of straight and oblique crosses - male and female are combined into an 8-pointed star (red star outside the mandala). It is not only the fertility of man or the earth in the combination of man and woman but also a symbol of creative life-giving work that will bring results. The heart is love, flowers grow in these hearts. We strive for is to be in love, creative and productive in this life. Such symbols, which I use to paint this ornament, come from the Trypillia culture and have come down to us through embroidery, pottery and ethnic folk art. Drawing ornaments based on Ukrainian embroidery, you can learn a lot about what our ancestors believed.

Hi, I am Olha Aliakina. I grew up in Ukraine, but now I live and work in Poland. I always painted. It's like a habit that's been with me throughout my life. During my school years, I went to art school and sculpture courses. My aunt is an artist, and as a child, I used to visit her. She put on still lifes for us, and we drew them together. It was only for the two of us outside art school. I loved it. I received a Bachelor's Degree from Kharkiv Aerospace University with an emphasis on Air Navigation in 2012. Then I received a Master's Degree from Kyiv Aviation University with an emphasis on Avionics in 2014. I was working as an aviation engineer. But throughout my studies at the university and working, I never stopped drawing. Today I draw illustrations based on traditional national ornaments of embroidery and folklore
