ISF10 The handling of my chosen media is often applied in overlapping and mirrored layers forming atmospheric portraits and landscapes that intentionally evoke sensations of memory recollection and internal evolution. This particular work is of a group of 10th grade students that I hold near and dear to my heart. Their detailed portraits are entangled in patterns and designs that engulf and flatten out their bodies that meld into one another. The figures are depicted with closed eyes. This theme is part of a recent series in my work. Eyes are the windows to our souls but when they are closed what happens. Closed eyes are a metaphor that can open ended interpretation. We close our eyes for rest and peace but in doing so we lose connections to our family, community and sight of what is really going on in our world. However, you cannot survive with your eyes wide open all the time.
