When living in Mozambique, I made sketches of my tropical garden on my old iPad like David Hockney, but in my own way. I couldn’t resist. I love tropical plants an I loved my garden, which was like a paradise. Hopefully you will sense the pleasure of making the sketches and the admiration for nature. I like drawing on a iPad, because it is challenging to discover the possibilities of new modern technology, while I am trained to paint or print with conventional mediums.

Netherlands
Born in The Netherlands, I have been an independent artist since my training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. I paint with oil and acrylic, and make digital drawings and paintings on iPad or iPhone. I have lived in many places around the world and made paintings in India, the United States, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique and Switzerland. I have been able to show them at many important exhibitions in almost all those countries. Currently I live in The Hague, back in my home country. It goes without saying that I’m influenced by the Dutch Masters from a young age. But during my education at the Academy of Art I visited already many important exhibitions in London, Paris, Amsterdam and more. I was very much attracted to modern painting. When moving to India and the African continent, the local art was also very inspiring to me. With every new painting, I embark on an adventure of unfamiliar routes using my own style, perception, and sense of color. Making a painting is a personal journey as well. Layer-by-layer, a piece of art with its own soul arises. The impressions and experiences of travelling were important for my development as an artist. Each new location had its own unique lighting and angle of incidence. I explored new inspiring themes everywhere. By looking at the world from different angles, I have collected a wealth of images and imaginations. I am delighted to share these with everyone through my paintings. More is yet to come. I also make commissioned portraits in oil paint, with which I have gained extensive experience. You can contact me about this. In 2013 I won first prize in The Hague for the best portrait of the Dutch King Willem-Alexander, composed of 40 iPad drawings. The portrait hangs at various Dutch embassies.
