Dakini 32, named after the sacred female messenger of wisdom from Tantric Buddhism. She is intuition; you cannot grasp her, for as a flash of insight she will always escape your grasp. The first Dakini arose when I didn't know for a moment how to proceed. I picked up a piece of clay and began to knead. I invited myself to create a female figure with as few actions as possible. The next day again, and again. Now this has become a habit, a daily meditation. It helps me connect with the clay and with the feminine flow within the myself and the earth. I let her emerge under my hands. The hardest part is to stop as soon as she is there. Not to continue polishing and fiddling. Because so easily I go too far, causing her to lose her magic. Some I let dry and surrender to the fire. Building a new cobkiln for each firing. This Dakini made it through the flames. She is formed form earth, water, fire, air and space. She is ready to represent the sacred feminine in your home.

In my work, I search for the feminine divine. I work in the area where matter and transcendent experiences converge. There I encounter ancient themes such as the moment of creation, life force and the natural movement of growth, birth and decay. I conduct research by recreating my own body. And through physical study of ancient images and stories. The process of making is as important as the images created in this process. My work is a ritual of clay, water, fire and air. A ritual in which the goddess becomes visible. https://www.mariekeploeg.nl Press: 2023 Trouw 2023 Volkskrant 2023 Nederlands Dagblad 2022 Hard/Hoofd Magazine
