BUBBLY EYE Sculpture

BUBBLY is made of plaster of Paris, acrylic colours, varnish and other materials. The frame is plexiglas. The shape of the framed object resembles an eye and is one design in my boxed EYE Series, in which I explore various themes by decorating a 3D eye made of self-cast plaster of Paris. BUBBLY can be free standing on a counters, shelves, windowsills, and bedside tables AND it can also be hung on walls. This piece of art is veryjoyful as it refers to the childish pleasure of blowing soap bubbles. The perfect present for eternal child in one's self! EYE Series The boxed EYE series is inspired by the evil eye! This is the belief thata glance cast out of spite or jealousy can cause suffering, misfortune and all kinds of bad luck. But you can escape it with an “evil-eye” talisman that will reflect the bad and protect the good. A silly superstition? Not to billions of people around the world, including Greece, which I now call my home. As a German, it has been a challenging and rewarding journey confronting and exploring this powerful superstition in my artwork and my EYE series. Fusing western pop-art with old folklore has provided me with a platform to reflect on all kinds of thoughts, observations, moods and beauty that cross my mind, providing a unique and fresh take on the never-ending clash between tradition and modernity.
