Moody, mysterious and atmospheric. A unique etching. This piece was inspired by the fabulous, windswept region of Rutland Water in the North of England. Water and air merge and vibrate, changing the appearance of the landscape with each moment. In this etching, the deep, watery blues and greens blend and darken towards the distant land. Delicate pink tones suggest the warm tones of sunlight, as the day comes to a close. Due to the everchanging light, I chose to create this series of etchings as a series of 'monoprints'; a limited edition of only 15. The etched plate is individually inked, as in a traditional etching, but more ink is left on the plate, allowing for deliberate variations between each artwork created. This method of etching creates a 'mono print', as each print varies according to the application of the coloured inks. This etching was created using a zinc plate, aquatint (melting resin dust onto the plate with a flame, to allow the ink to 'grip'), litho crayon, acid and burnishing. The professional etching ink is smeared onto the etched plate and selectively removed. The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of 'Somerset' heavy weight, white paper, on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper. Image/plate size 29 x 36.5 cm Paper size 37 x 46 cm This print is signed, dated, titled and numbered 1/1 (as artwork is an individual, one off 'mono print'). It will be sent to you carefully wrapped in tissue paper, in a sturdy cardboard tube.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
