About The Artwork

Limited edition Fine Art photograph. Printed on Hahnemuhle Pearl paper which has a subtle sheen to it. This image is from the project "How Things Are". Awards for Smear: 2010 Professional Women Photographers 35th Anniversary First place in Abstract Categor. Juried by Elinor Carucci and Stephen Perloff. Using my own home as a tool I examine the dualities of my life and relationships. My home is an extension of myself. It houses all my anxieties and fears. It is in this space that I must confront my true self daily. A broken vase or some spilled milk are possible scenarios of the everyday. In focusing on these subtle moments, I isolate these events attempting to highlight and elevate this chaos. They are the short stories of my life that represent moments where the internal and external collide, where my fears and anxieties manifest themselves on physical objects.

Chrissy Lush is captivated by the fleeting moments that offer glimpses into the depths of the subconscious. In her self-portraits, she utilizes performance to evoke intangible emotions. Her images blurs the lines between what is real and constructed, striking a delicate balance between surrealism and reality. Working alone, she creates staged scenes where she is both behind and in front of the camera. In her series "Hold Me Tight," the artist skillfully portrays the illusion of interaction by appearing twice within the frame, deftly bringing to life a playful scene where one bursts the other's bubble. Despite the seemingly spontaneous play, she single-handedly crafts each moment. Chrissy Lush aims to provoke a sense of wonder and curiosity in the viewer. She wants to encourage them to look beyond the surface of the image and to consider the deeper meaning and symbolism within the scene.
