About The Artwork

During our visit to Valdivia, we wanted to visit the seashore of Corral, which we visited 38 year earlier. At that it, you could only take a tourist ferry that took you to the Corral and Niebla Spaniard fortresses, both guarding from key positions at each side of the Corral bay. Google maps showed me that there was now a road to get to Corral. My intension was to take images of the rocks of the Pacific Ocean seashore. We drove 1/3 of distance when the paved road ended, nevertheless the gravel road was not that bad. At about one half of the distance, we got to a very long bridge, however it was on maintenance for the next 4 hours. The online travel maps had mention about this, or very few people drove by to register this inconvenience. At the hotel I learned that you could take the car ferry from Niebla to Corral in about 40 minutes. The following day we took the ferry that balance heavily due to the Corral Bay sea waves. Driving through a costal road adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, I could not find a public entrance towards the seashore. The entire coast had a private fenced terrain, and the very few open places were not interesting. After a long drive we discovered a small dirt road in direction towards the sea. However, from time to time the road made a curve taking you away from the sea. Finally, we found a small parking area, as we stopped, a trail towards the sea became visible. In a matter of minutes, we were in front of the seashore, where a small creek ended its course joining with ocean. White polished rocks with form of an egg were scattered that caught my attention and started registering them. I discovered that there was a large flat rock formation, where smaller rock rolled during high tide. As the rocks rolled, they were polished making groves as well on this flat formation. Although I focused on taking images of the creek, the polished rocks at Puerto Ranquil are something special. Unframed, Archival fine art/photographic fiber paper or 100% cotton rag baryta pigment-based paper. Signed certificate of authenticity.

Artist Statement I am a passionate photographer, blessed with curious eyes that are constantly amazed by the forms and designs produced by water, and the combination of its temperature and light. No matter how many pictures I take of the same shot, every time I witness a very different expression. My camera and I have been traveling around the world since 1977, registering its shapes and essence, which I have been sharing through large prints, as an homage to its abundance, fragility, and essential existence; trying to convey the feeling I had at the time of the capture, registering most of the time in color and sometimes in monochrome. History It was late 1955 when my eyes peeped at the city of La Paz near the high Andes. Since then, they have learned by capturing sparkles of light. Started at the age of 10 with oil painting and playing in darkroom (full equipment I discovered in my home basement), later taking pictures of what my eyes noticed. Took as much photography courses as I could. Still continue learning and testing/using new digital tools. The influence of Ansel Adams and Vincent Van Gogh work has forged my technique to pursue the chase of Water and capture its beauty, creating a large portfolio during my visits to more than 40 countries. Living in 10 of them and settled at the small town of Calera de Tango in Chile. My work was done using a medium format film camera, and currently with a digital camera. I try to capture the beauty of water in all its forms; denouncing many times the little interest that our civilized world invests in its conservation and preservation. Printing mainly on large size fine art photographic paper, in Color as well as Black & White. The passion of portraying water was funded by me, as well as most of the exhibits I made, except for a few that Sony Chile provided equipment and funding for printing and framing. Water, an important resource, source of life, and protagonist of my exhibitions around the world, that converge between the look of the paused movement, preserving it for future generations, as is the case of certain images that I took at a glacier that has disappeared in less than 20 years.
