It serves as a visual metaphor, bridging our sensual enjoyment of food with the ancient wisdom of classical mythology. In antiquity, fruits and vegetables often symbolized fertility and rebirth. Consider the story of Persephone who eats a pomegranate, thereby spending a third of the year in the underworld, only to resurrect every spring - an eternal cycle of death and rebirth. This series speaks to a modern audience by referencing contemporary movements such as veganism. By staging vegetables and salad leaves in the mouths of women, a connection between the sensual experience of eating and the conscious decision for a more sustainable lifestyle is established.

The focus of ARTURUTRA is mouths. Yet these fragmented bodies do not conform to classical portraits. They often resemble staged still lifes. The works are characterized by a narrative ambiguity. The viewer sees and must fill in the missing elements themselves. Perhaps they view with the eyes constantly absent in the works. Then, the depicted mouths speak with the inner voice of the observer.
