About The Artwork
This painting re-imagines the view over Winchelsea marshes to Camber Castle on the Sussex coast, near the historic town of Rye. On this late summer morning I walked for miles over the landscape, with threatening rain and the sound of Green Woodpeckers. The remains of the Tudor castle now lost in the march from the retreated coastline took on a kind of slightly sinister omnipresence, reflected in the unnerving blue I gave it in the painting back at the studio.
