About The Artwork
I painted the majority of this piece in the middle of a night when I couldn't sleep - I was very much painting as I felt, which I always do to some degree but particularly so in this case. The spray-painted letters suggest the mental chatter that's always an issue on sleepless nights, and I used the red paint to create a sense of discomfort and tension. The painting is presented in a bespoke wooden tray frame (photos to come, please refer to my piece 'The Somnambulists' to see the kind of frame I use), varnished and fitted with hanging hardware.

I'm a painter based in Nottingham, UK. I work primarily with acrylics but often incorporate other media - collage, transferred imagery, crayon, graphite, oil stick - into my pieces. My work is fuelled by a desire for connection and understanding, and employs the human form to convey emotional states and facets of human interaction and communication. I often use asemic or largely illegible writing to suggest conversation and narrative. The figures too are purposefully ambiguous, both giving voice to the idea that we, as humans, are uncertain creatures and also allowing for audience projection and interpretation.
