About The Artwork

This painting is inspired by Shahnameh ( book of kings). The Shahnameh (Book of Kings) is the national epic of Iran, composed by the poet Ferdowsi between 980 and 1010 AD. It tells the story of ancient Persia beginning in the mythic time of Creation and progressing to the Arab-Islamic invasion of the country in the seventh century; it is structured according to the mythical and historical reign of 50 Persian Kings of antiquity. This is a story of Rostam ( a heroic character) in the Persian history. The seventh and final heroic trial that Rostam had to go through, was fighting the White Demon. This demon was very strong and could perform powerful sorcery. As the painting shows, the White Demon lived in a dark cave that was said to be ‘as dark as the mouth of hell’. Rostam bravely entered and found that the demon whose huge body was monstrously pale and pasty like a ghoul’s, (a frightening evil person) was asleep. A bloody fight followed, with Rostam using his sword to kill the demon. This painting is done on linen gallery wrapped canvas. In addition, this painting has beautiful textures and painted with one the finest acrylic fabric paints.
