Rhododendron Hedge Modernist Painting in Pink and Green Painting

This playful pink and green painting features a rhododendron hedge in full spring bloom. When we lived in Williamstown, on the Williams College campus, we had one of these growing alongside our house. In the early spring it would erupt in spectacular pink blossoms to chase the blues away. That said, this painting does feature tiny windows of pale sky blue between the leaves. Early on in the pandemic, we escaped for a few days to Naulakha, Rudyard Kipling's home in Brattleboro Vermont. The rhododendron hedge there was in full bloom at the time and we ate all of our meals and played board games nearby and managed, for just a short while, to hide away from the world with our best friends. Last summer, while wandering Kew Gardens with my best friend, I felt so inspired by the recognition that blooming pink rhododendron hedges have served as a gorgeous natural backdrop to so many of my best memories. This playful impressionist painting is an ode to this flower and an ode to those moments. It features a wild array of greens: mint and emerald and forest and hunter, pistachio and pthalo and cypress and lime. The magenta blossoms offer a vibrant contrast to the myriad greens that create the vivid ground of the piece. It may be hung landscape or portrait and is painted on a wooden board with a two inch cradle as shown in photographs. It will ship, lovingly packaged, from my California, East Bay studio.
