Reflections in Sète harbour Painting

This oil painting is a semi-abstract treatment of one of my favourite sujects: reflections of fishing boats, usually old traditional ones, in the water. I started working on this theme about four years ago, painting watercolours of boat reflections in Mediterranean harbours, mainly Sète and Sanary because you find there a lot of old fishing boats. I have painted altogether about 14 of them, 6 of which are on sale on Saatchi. I used several watercolours made on location as studies for this work. I love the abstact effect given by the reflections of these coloured mediterranean boats . It was painted on a linen canvas in my studio over a period of eight months using the glazing technique. Glazing consists in applying a transparent layer of paint over another thoroughly dried one. In my paintings there are usually between 6 to 14 thin layers of paint , depending on the opacity of the pigment. This process gives a lot of depth and increases luminosity but it's very slow since a fortnight drying is required between each layer. I use extra fine pigments ensuring long conservation of the work (several centuries for an oil painting !). This painting is sold with a certificate of authenticity and ready to hang. It was used for the poster of the Autumn International Art Show in Le Grau du Roi in which I was guest of honour.
