This painting is one in a new series done on a non-absorbent, archival painting surface, clear as glass but non-breakable (wet-media DuraLar). Remarkable things happen when thick and thin paint is applied to this surface. Brushstrokes remain visible and palpable from all angles and light enters front and back. The clear surface of the painting makes it appear as if pure, textured colour is suspended in air. Currently placed upon a white background, the painting's clear/transparent surface, will assume whatever background colour it is placed upon. "Profusion" is a highly textured circular composition that uses different paint textures and colors to create a rich bouquet. The interaction of space, light, and gesturally applied paint on this unique surface creates an inviting visual-sensuous experience that gathers you into it as you continue to look. Photographed (and mailed for ease) as mounted to white foam-core), the painting can be viewed as is, or it can easily be detached and set into a floating frame or, for more novel treatments, use materials like plexiglass -- allowing it to rest 3-D on tabletop or wall. Seen from different angles, the light changes the visual interactions inspired by the paint and surface.

Abstract and Imaginatively Representational artworks that celebrate life's diversity. The focus is upon lyrical and dramatic moments of interaction between our inner and outer worlds -- the crossroads of reality and imagination, where beauty is seen in many unusual forms. As an artist, I revel in the sensually dynamic qualities of paint and colour and wish for my work to connect with others in ways that enliven the senses, experience, and imagination. I write an illustrated art-and-travel column, Creative Life News, at janetstrayerart.com Born in Europe, I grew up in New York City, moved to Canada, and became a full professor and published researcher in psychology. Always also an avid art and art history student, I received my "credentials" as a fine-art painter in 2010 with my first solo exhibition. My paintings have been featured in public gallery solo shows and many juried group exhibitions.(listed at my website: www.janetstrayer.com) My works have won some awards, appeared in news and media, and are part of private and public collections in several parts of the world.
