Planting Ferns Acrylic and Sand on Canvas 36x36" 2020 This painting is inspired by my personal experience in my surrounding environment. NYC is a complex and at times overstimulating place, navigating my own sensitivity to the tactile and visual stimulation around me drives my inquiry into materiality and surface. In this painting, I aim to leverage the quiet allure of surface and material by creating soft, velvety surfaces that counterbalance the bluntness of the rigid geometric compositions. My additive process of painting is an intuitive search for balance and harmony. Subtle grooves, seams, and recessed shapes add to the complexity of the painting's surfaces, hinting at the trials and errors in layers below. This cyclical process of painting and repainting provides me with a lulling comfort that mirrors a larger aspiration for finding systems that create harmony in our lives.
