This is one of a series of small, intimate still life paintings using watercolour and gouache on shikishi board. I painted “Pepper, Pear, Roses” in the autumn. On a light blue plate, the pepper and pear glow in shades of golden yellow, with green and rosy highlights. Next to them are three pink roses with green leaves. The colours of the painting are soft and harmonious. This is an original, signed artwork. Gouache is a richly coloured water-based artists paint. It is painted on a shikishi board, an artists paper board with a decorative gold-paper border. The painting will come to you mounted in a white double mat, enclosed in a clear acrylic cover. This painting can be displayed just as it is, on a tabletop easel. Or you could add a frame for display on a wall. These small still lifes look great displayed together as a group, or singly. The dimensions of the painting are 5.25” x 4.75”. With mat, the dimensions are 11.875”H x 11”W.

I have been involved in visual arts, especially painting, all my life. My current work is semi-abstract and spontaneous, using a variety of mediums--paints, inks, pencils, coloured papers, textiles and found materials of all kinds--to explore the effects of line, colour and the expressive fluidity of paint. I am inspired by traditional brush calligraphy and its free expression as art. Exploring gestures of brush and ink on paper as a meditative discipline grounds my work and opens to infinite possibilities. I prefer working spontaneously, which allows something fresh and unexpected to come through. MEDIUMS USED I work in a variety of visual art mediums, including gouache, watercolours, sumi ink, acrylics, collage, coloured and printed papers, fabrics, recycled materials and mixed media.
