The original work is a sculpture from the Renaissance period. Its most important feature is that it is Michelangelo's only signed work. The work symbolizes Jesus lying on the lap of his mother Mary after being crucified. With Jesus being taken down from the cross and being given in a small form compared to Mary, it brings Mary to the forefront, glorifies her and shows her power. However, in this painting, two periods that are intended to be given are together. These are Renaissance and Metaphysical painting. In metaphysical painting, the use of tailor mannequins gives the expressionlessness of emotionlessness, emptiness and detachment from reality. It is a different expression of the covering of pain, of consenting to pain. The ambiguity and at the same time the neutral state of Mary on Jesus creates a contrasting effect on the painting by giving the portrait in the form of an empty mannequin face. The state of being unresponsive to pain is intended to be explained by combining two periods in this work.
