Münsterplatz 2 Painting

Robin Ballard was inspired to paint this painting from a photograph she had taken at Münsterplatz in Basel, Switzerland. Next to the cathedral is a large water fountain. She noticed that the water’s surface reflected the light and shadow of the chestnut trees growing overhead. The artist began the painting by mixing various harmonious colors and dripping them onto the canvas. After drying, she decided to create a negative painting, meaning she painted the color white around the tree's leaves. In doing so the depiction of the chestnut tree comes alive with subtle color. This painting is aesthetic and is well suited to most interiors.
