As a Charleston resident, I have always been fascinated by the mighty live oak trees dripping in Spanish moss, and I wanted to admire their natural beauty. Spanish moss is a flowering plant full of story. Known as “tree hair.” In these paintings I focal on building the abstract shapes of the tone to contrast with the business of the fine details of the Spanish moss. The textures are prevalent, the differences tone of drapes, limbs rest on the ground, and the meadow meandered in the sunlight to distinguish the moss. I admire the shade that transformed the grass into a dappled hue, and together with the bright patches to form an image, they created the ever-changing mosaic of light and shade in the breeze.

Since childhood, drawing brought Bingyu to a world with infinite possibilities and creative joy. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing, China) with a master’s degree in urban design. In 2004, Bingyu moved to the US with her husband. While living in the US, she continued to study 17-18th century techniques and paint still-life pieces, and developed a deep affection for nature motifs. Her desire to create art as a full-time profession led her to resign her current job to pursue a career in the arts. Inspired by Kaii Higashiyama’s harmonious and Georgia O’Keeffe’s innovative impressionist images that challenged perceptions, Andrew Wyeth and Alex Colville’s narrative style, her landscape paintings try to create an intimate experience while capturing a prominent moment. While living in the US, she developed a love for exploration of the unknown and traveling across the country with her husband and daughter. She enjoys adapting to different lifestyles and culture and have photographed many moments which deeply touched her. Back in the studio she edited and recreated the landscape she captured and distilled through attention and consideration so that the composition, surface, and colors are more interesting and evocative. Her paintings have weight and simplicity. Most of the time, she starts her paintings with thinned-out oil paint and integrate a combination of deliberate layers and flat minimal-layered surfaces. She enjoys using vibrant colors and brushstrokes to show serenity. These images depict emotion, mood, and sensation. They celebrate the simple beauty and vitality of the landscape. Painting these images is an act of contemplation that she hopes produce a dimension of mystery to the pictorial narrative with full senses and share meticulous aesthetics.
