About The Artwork

"La Moni", depicts a lowrider that is in a three wheel motion. The car is enveloped with graffiti, pixels and cityscape imagery drawing attention towards the lowrider. The work was inspired by my own experiences as a lowrider owner and artist. The sensory overload of the colors and imagery within the painting is meant to force the viewer to study the painting thoroughly. This is necessary since women lowriders are generally overlooked in mainstream culture. The piece was painted in order to call attention to these communities that are often ignored or stigmatized.

Valenzuela is a multi-media artist whose practice is centered around her experiences as a woman within the Chicano world of lowriding. Her art practice reflects the deep roots she has planted in the lowrider community by bridging the gap between fine art and this underrepresented community
