This piece is created with acrylic paint and paint markers on a high quality linen canvas. On the back there is a steel wire attached to hang it properly on your wall. There is very minimal texture, only a little bit in the background because of the many layers of paint. I tend to create backgrounds with multiple layers of paint to give it depth and make it more interesting to look at. When the background is done, I start with painting the subject(s). Again with many layers to create more intensity and realism. With a lot of my works I want to give the spectator a feeling of alienation. As if you're stepping into a bizarre dimension where humans and nature live in harmony. A strange symbiosis, sometimes erotic, sometimes plain bizarre. In this painting I merged two bodies who were allegedly have sex. They end up as some sort of conjoined-twin-like creature with a iridescent skin. The skin tones are inspired by those beautiful beetles and other insects who change colour in the moving light. Their bodies are intertwined with a snake. Not only a sexual symbol, and a symbol of transformation, but in this painting also representing energy. The snake is about to bite in his tail, about to close the circle that represents eternity. Just like the famous mythological snake Ouroboros.

Rick van den Berg is a professional artist who makes both un-commissioned and commissioned works of art. The most common theme in Rick’s un-commissioned works is the power of dreams, imagination and fantasy. To express these themes he combines portraits, elements of nature, symbolism, geometry and organic abstractions. In his latest paintings he adds sexual images to this mix of elements, with a contemporary homage to classical paintings. It becomes a symbiosis between humans and nature in a universe where everything is interconnected. A world adhering to nature and following the flow of love.
