If you know me many would say my life had been a constant quest for knowledge. I desire to understand and study Black African American culture as it stands today. Honestly, I have grown bored of the white supremacy narrative. My people have been conditioned for generations to believe that black history started with slavery, but I know better. The pursuit of my painting came about a year or two ago. I stumbled upon the materials to bring my vision to life then my imagination leads the way. Creativity stems from deep thoughts of false narratives, labels, social biases, and stereotypes. Authentically, I open up my painting to the world. What do you see? It brings me joy to experience my work through the lens of others. Can you relate to my vision? Has a seed been planted in your mind? Regardless please share your stories, experiences, and knowledge. Encourage open dialogue about what connects us to our true history. “Take what you need and leave the rest.” That was told to me by my newly found sis @layd-essence, who was told by her Aunt. Sis has been dropping gems every time she and I speak! Passing stories, experiences, and knowledge to our people, Elevates us as a people and as a culture.Self-reflection is hard and painful at times. Healing provides relief, clarity, and inner peace. Allow yourself to operate in your higher self. Break generational stagnation. Please see a therapist to help you navigate through it. Peace god

Victoria Roberts is an artist currently based in Georgia originally from St Louis, Mo. She has a background in Fine Art and Photography. Her other skills are bookmaking, jewelry, home installations and wood burning (pyrography). She aims to show the emotional side of African American culture, perspectives, and experiences. She wants her collectors to really feel her paintings. Allowing them to question where it may be deriving from, and becoming emotionally and consciously aware. Victoria was the first person in her family to come to terms with mental health and to seek therapy. Being a sensitive person to others energies, and allowing herself to feel she would often questioned the narrative of why mental health is as only “for” the Anglo people. Throughout her work she promotes mental health and emotional awareness by leaving little seeds of African history, culture or language in her work. She would often be envious of those that spoke their native language as well as English. Initially aiming to break some of the generational curses that she found not only in her family but in others also. The disconnect, the lack of emotional intelligence that she experiences first hand and on the outside looking in. All of which resides in the trauma of the past to present knowingly and unknowingly, which she hopes to reflect in her work.
