Cinder Blocked Painting

I was inspired to go in an entirely different style from my previous work when I started reading about one of my favorite artists, David Hockney. My earlier work is very 'painterly' with visible brush strokes, I wanted to try something that was very controlled and without the 'action' of the brushstrokes. I had just had a new roof put on and the experience led to this painting. The line at the top does not completely enclose the space, I was feeling anxious and unnerved by the whole process. The gap between the roof and the wall is a representation of this anxiety. The foreground is the dirt under the house and can double as a carpet. The house is precariously held up by only two cinder blocks. Even though this has an element is of anxiety for me I wanted the overall effect to be positive with the sunlight streaming in the window, life goes on.
