This is a part of my Cherry Blossom collection, inspired by my trip to Japan in spring 2018. The experience was an amazing mark on my life. We (my family) were attending the 100 anniversary of this particular Cherry Blossom festival near Haikkado Island. There were so many different cherry blossoms, in colors and variations, from trees century years old to newly planted within that year. The smells and mystical floating petals made this experience feel like a dream. We spent the entire day, walking through pathways and over streams, taking in this amazing experience. I started this painting in 2018 - It was a different color, but I couldn't just bring myself to finish it. I wanted to create variations of blossom paintings that reflect different emotions. Different color combinations, textures, and compositions. Many of these paintings are still in process. Life gets in the way sometimes... and then a pandemic. In February 2022, as I was looking back and reflecting on my time in Japan in 2018, I could see how I could resolve the color issues. I could place myself back into the moment, the experience that I felt at this time.

Art is my life therapy. Everyone has a story. Everyone has life experiences; this changes our lives for the best or the not-so-good. I believe that all negative experiences are just lessons we need to pay attention to. It’s how we react to those negative experiences is whether we learned from it, or repeat it for the lesson later. I have put my good - and not so good - experiences into my paintings. I wanted to document the beauty I find throughout my life. Many references are from photos I have taken along my journey, our family’s world travels, or just emotions etched on the canvas. I try to live by my life’s motto: Make your life a work of Art. Reflective, childhood-like, innocent, folklore, complex with depth – just some of the expressions that best illustrate her artistic style.
