About The Artwork

Anticipating... breath... stay calm... go through the choreographed steps... focus your mind. The human body and especially woman, is my favourite topic to paint. Balarinas have to talk through there body with gestures and movement. I'm drawn to them and like to paint them. In anticipation the ballerina is preparing to go on stage, and is reversing her movements and steps. She is alone in thought. That is why I choose to paint her in black and white. I started with brush and then finish with palette knife. The marks of the palette knife is in places very delicately and in other places more robust. On April 24 2024 Anticipating is awarded with a Bronze award in the Camelback Gallery Figurative art competition.

Artistic inspiration began at an early age, born on 4 November 1960 in a small town in Namibia. In South Africa as a young girl she found her most natural expression through art. She explored pencil drawings and discovered her love for portraits and the human body. She finds inspiration in what happens visually around her, her loved ones, the news, magazines and television. She notices the sadness, the anticipation and the intent in a gesture, a posture, a face. And that is what she brings to the canvas. Her artistic philosophy is to spread happiness, to inspire kindness and enjoy life to the full. In 2008 she was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and in 2010 took up art classes with Alicia Maasburg where she discovered her love for painting with oil. She also studied the colour wheel with Louis Audi and leared to mix colours. She started off as a realistic painter but after the introduction to the palette knife, she developed her own unique style. In 2013 she took a few years off to help raise her only grandson and began painting again in 2017 at Rembrandts art school. Her favoured artists are: Tretschikoff, van Gogh, da Vinci and Mornet.
