About The Artwork
'100', painted in 2024, is the last part of a 100 painting body of work which has been in development since 2021, in acrylic on canvas. As a 25 year old (Filipino-German) migrant who has grown up in Sydney, Nico’s work deals with a sense of displacement in absence of cultural connection. This compounded by the challenges of the ongoing economic recession in a post-COVID world compel Nico to engage with his art practice as a means to provide a shared space of respite. Statement: I personally have found myself gravitating towards acrylic paint as a medium for quite sometime for its ease of use and the speed at which it dries. Leading me to paint in a collage-like manner, painting in a layered, piece by piece manner.
