This is part of a series using the metaphor of Message in a Bottle to explore the nature of lineage (family and also the lineage of words, passions, feelings) as experienced through time and space. Take Me Out of the Blue refers to a line in one of 100 letters written by my grandfather, who I never met, to his wife, while he was a young soldier during WW1. He was lonely and disconnected and imploring her to write more to "take me out of the blue." The poignancy and poetry struck me as the name of a series and a pathway for exploration and connection to this ancestor. It is both lightfilled - referencing the joyous dream of reconnection, and dark-- representing the gloom that befalls all of us now and then, whether in war, a global crisis or simply everyday life.
